On Puzzles and Games
We bought a few new puzzles and games this year that are definite "wins" for us. While Mike and I were in bed with the flu, our kids spent several days putting together this 1000-piece puzzle. They loved it and couldn't wait for me to purchase more. We have since put together another one, and the we have begun the third. We set up a card table in our office and it is our designated puzzle spot for now. It is a wonderful way to promote team-work, problem solving and being "unplugged".
We also purchased two new games this Christmas that we are playing several times a week. Both are great purchases...especially Ticket to Ride. My 6 year old Will is obsessed with it! I love having a kid that loves board games so much and is always up for some friendly competition. These are so great for giving us fun and slow family time which can be hard to come by as schedules begin to busy again.
These have really blessed our family during chilly days and sick days. Anything that promotes slow living and togetherness is a thumbs-up for me.

Real Puzzles! I need to try those again with my kids. Maybe they are old enough to muster the patience.
My gift to Brandon was a German game called Carcassone. It's a great strategy/luck 2-player game that he and I really love playing together(finally!). It also can be played with up to 6 people and has many levels of difficulty, so the kids are digging it. Maybe you all should try it someday.
Winter is a great time for puzzles and board games. We have been doing some of both here, too. A new game for us is Dominion. Fun. And we are big fans of Settler of Catan.
Me too! You know, by my Instagram photos, that I've become a puzzle maniac. I found two new ones at Goodwill and am saving the 1000 piece The Last Supper for a special occasion. 1000 piecers are a little daunting to me. I much prefer 350-500 pieces.
Lovely post. Reading aloud is also my kids' favorite, and always what they want to go back to first.
My six year old really loves puzzles. Five of us worked on a puzzle over several days. We left it out (but out of reach of little hands!)And we LOVE Ticket to Ride. I found at a consignment sale in perfect condition and snatched it up. We've been playing on Fri nights after the littles are in bed. It's great--yes, there is definitely strategy but it's not overly complicated. My kids also love Sleeping Queens---they play it by themselves often.
